We have found that there are complications with ephemerality. In theory it sounds philosophically sound. However, in practice, in a company context, the time-to-live for any given stream should be variable because every conversation is different and involves different people.

#91 thus, you get to a point where manual management of an archive is far more effective. And manual deletion of streams and their content allows networks to free up storage space.

  • Searching an archive is far more valuable than just the ephemeral content
  • Familiar triaging (with archive) serves us well for our product vision with different types of particles such as quests, paper, folders / file storage
  • We can later add features around "auto-archive on inactivity" which would aide in maintaining a clean workspace
  • #21 tagging particles will help in another dimension, just like GitHub issues labels
  • Hopefully teams build good habits around hygiene of their inbox such that they archive and delete conversations like standup so that people feel less anxious about recordings
